Alex Bimbo Onatunji has joined the Chair of Forest and Environmental Policy (Prof. Dr. Daniela Kleinschmit) as a research associate at the University of Freiburg in August 2023. He is working on the DFG-funded project “Comparing Forest Governance Performances of Regional Regimes. A Comprehensive Analysis”.

He has previously worked and served in different official positions in the European Forest Institute, Bonn, Germany, the International Union of Forest Research Organizations, Vienna, Austria, and the International Forestry Students Association, Germany. His previous research interests include forest education, biodiversity conservation, social Science, and forest governance and policy.

Alex Bimbo Onatunji studied the International Erasmus Mundus Master Programme in Mediterranean Forestry and Natural Resources Management (MEDfOR) at the University of Lleida, Spain, and the University of Padova, Italy. He has a Bachelor of Forestry and Wildlife at the University of Ilorin, Nigeria. 

 

Research interests

Alex is researching the nexus between forest policies and governance in relations to regional organizations. Previously, Forest Education and Employment have been the focus of his research over the past few years, leading to some publications through his bachelor’s and master’s degree thesis.
