Pascal Renaud is a PhD researcher at the Chair of Forest and Environmental Policy at the University of Freiburg. He is part of the collaborative EU research project “LEARNFORCLIMATE – Learning to realize multiple forest policy objectives under climate related stress and disturbance”, which compares case studies in Germany, Poland, Slovenia and Sweden. His research focuses on public policy analysis and collaborative learning processes related to climate change mitigation and adaptation in European forests.
He holds a Master of Arts degree in political science with specialisation in international environmental affairs from the French university Sciences Po Paris. Before joining the University of Freiburg in 2022, he gathered ten years of professional experience with environmental policy processes. From 2016 to 2021, he acted as advisor on circular economy and marine litter prevention at the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). Amongst others, he contributed to the development of conceptual approaches and a multi-stakeholder partnership to manage waste and reduce plastic pollution, supported dialogue between stakeholders in the European Union and Southeast Asia, and observed international negotiations within G7/G20 and the United Nations Environmental Assembly. Between 2012 and 2015, he served as political secretary for economic and financial policy at the Green Party of Switzerland, accompanying a popular initiative on green economy and an environmental law reform through their parliamentary process.
