Policy challenges for the European forest sector
After some background the talk will analyse four policy challenges:
- Supplying renewable energy on a sustainable basis without starving existing industries or massacring biodiversity and landscape
- Becoming innovative and competitive, getting rid of the commodity mentality: invest in R&D, integrate supply chains, be more customer oriented
- Leading the way to a green economy: the forest sector can show the way with certification, PES, sustainability principles, practice and monitoring, low carbon/recycling/no waste etc
- Communicating and listening: a weak point of the sector
