Veerle Dossche

European Forest campaigner FERN (NGO tracking European forest policy)

Veerle Dossche studied Bioscience Engineering, Land Management and Forestry at the University of Ghent (Belgium). She has more than 15 years experience as a forest campaigner in various international environmental NGOs and has worked on issues such as certification, timber procurement policies, illegal logging and the related FLEGT process. Veerle also has extensive experience in negotiating with private sector executives and policy makers to reduce the impact on natural forests of some key industrial sectors (the pulp and paper, timber, soy and palm oil industries).

Since 2008, she has been working as the EU Forest Campaigner for FERN, an NGO based in Brussels and the UK, focussing on forests and forests peoples’ rights in the policies and the practices of the EU. Her work there includes researching the impact of EU policies (such as biomass) on European forests. In addition to informing these policies at the EU level, FERN is also working with NGOs in different Member States to develop a joint vision of how and under which conditions biomass can contribute to the future energy mix.
